Exploring the Relationship between Biodiversity Conservation and Human Well- Being in Rural India
Abstract: The relationship between biodiversity conservation and human well-being is complex and multifaceted. While biodiversity conservation is essential for maintaining ecosystem services and promoting sustainable development, it can also have negative impacts on human well-being, particularly in rural areas where people depend on natural resources for their livelihoods. This study explores the relationship between biodiversity conservation and human well-being in rural India, with a focus on the impacts of conservation efforts on local livelihoods and well-being. The study uses a mixed-methods approach, combining survey data from 500 households in three rural districts of India with in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The results show that biodiversity conservation efforts can have both positive and negative impacts on human well-being, depending on the specific context and the level of community involvement. The study highlights the importance of community-based conservation approaches that take into account the needs and concerns of local people, and that promote sustainable livelihoods and human well-being.
