Abstract: This paper explores the public health objective of eliminating mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV, highlighting global strategies and Romania’s efforts in line with WHO guidelines. It discusses the mechanisms of transmission, key prevention measures such as antiretroviral treatment during pregnancy, childbirth practices, and postnatal care, alongside surveillance and policy initiatives. The study underlines the importance of early diagnosis, access to healthcare services, and interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving MTCT elimination. Current data and outcomes are analyzed to evaluate progress and identify ongoing challenges in reaching elimination targets.
