A bibliometric analysis of the impact of Open Access publishing on citations, RVC 2014-2024

This poster was presented at the Royal Veterinary College's annual Research Highlights event on 25th February 2025. It demonstrates a simple bibliometric analysis of RVC-authored articles published between 2014 and 2024, which investigates the effect of Open Access (OA) publishing on citations. The results show that OA articles published by RVC authors between 2014 and 2024 performed better than Closed articles when measuring average Field Weighted Citation Impact. Data was sourced from OpenAlex, meaning it is openly available to all under a CC0 licence allowing this analysis to be reproduced, albeit the exact results will not be replicable as citation counts change in the future. The cleaned and analysed data are available alongside the poster in CSV format. Further information on the methodology used is available in the poster, which also acknowledges limitations of the analysis.
