Nature versus Artefacts: Places and Objects in Nineteenth-Century Novels from Spain and Latin America
Poster presented on July 17, 2025 at the conference DH2025 in Lisbon. Space, places, and spatial objects have been of interest for literary historical research for a long time. We take up this state of research by analyzing natural and artificial spaces, places, and spatial objects in nineteenth-century novels from Spain and Latin America through digital annotation, machine learning, and quantitative analysis, investigating how well the spatial references can be recognized and which ones dominate the texts in the nineteenth century.
