Optimal Endocrine Therapy for Premenopausal Women with Breast Cancer
Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer treatment involves suppressing estrogen levels, particularly in postmenopausal women. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) and selective estrogen receptor degraders (SERDs) are effective in postmenopausal women, but their use in premenopausal women requires additional strategies to suppress ovarian estrogen production. Ovarian function suppression (OFS) combined with AIs is a cornerstone of adjuvant endocrine therapy for high-risk premenopausal patients, significantly improving invasive disease-free survival and overall survival. A personalized and multidisciplinary approach is essential to address treatment-related side effects and ensure comprehensive care for premenopausal women with breast cancer.
