The Role of Pedagogical documentation in enhancing Reflective Teaching Practices in Early Childhood Education
Abstract Pedagogical documentation is a valuable tool in early childhood education, fostering reflective teaching practices. Based on the Reggio Emilia approach, it involves collecting and analyzing children’s learning experiences through photographs, videos, and written observations. This method enables educators to reflect on their teaching strategies, understand children’s learning processes, and adjust curriculum planning to meet their needs. This paper examines the role of pedagogical documentation in enhancing reflective teaching through secondary research, analyzing existing literature and case studies. Key benefits include improved teacher decision-making, enhanced collaboration and child-centered learning. However, challenges like time constraints, ethical concerns and professional training hinder its effective use. The findings suggest integrating pedagogical documentation into professional development programs can refine teaching approaches and create responsive learning environments. The paper concludes with recommendations for further research into digital tools for supporting teacher reflection in early childhood education.
