DELIVERABLE D4.1 Pilot Plan and Protocol Specification

SPATRA aims at increasing the use of satellite data in land transport by developing two new downstream applications for monitoring and management of rail and road transport and demonstrating them in operational environments. This deliverable D4.1 provides plans for the field-testing validation of both SPATRA pilot systems, road (RDP) and railway (RWP), to be conducted within WP4. It defines the testing, integration, and evaluation methodology for use cases in both workstreams: Road Infrastructure Monitoring and Railway Monitoring and Prediction of Rail Temperature Zones. Specific KPIs are established for both pilots to measure success against defined targets, and key target groups are identified whose feedback is essential for evaluating usability, performance, and identifying potential issues. The deliverable also outlines structured pilot evaluation protocols, including data collection techniques, methods for analysis and KPI assessment, pilot schedules with deployment steps in real settings, and component/module tests. By specifying the Pilots’ Plans and Evaluation Protocols, this document sets the basis for the demonstration and evaluation activities in SPATRA, leading to the integration and final implementation of the pilot systems, which will be detailed in the upcoming WP4 deliverables D4.2 (Integration and Validation Report) and D4.3 (Pilot Results and Analysis Report).
