AbsractPatriarchy is inextricably embedded in women's lives. It has been established in the society that it is impossible for women to lead a life beyond the patriarchy. Patriarchy has taken away women's sense of self from the matriarchal society. This society celebrates the selfless woman as the ideal woman. A woman's progress since then is symbolized as the best progress. As educational opportunities proliferated, earning a living became a family affair. A woman is positioned as having no right to spend her earned income as she pleases. Nowadays women are able to get what they need with the permission of their husband and spend it. If the woman acts against this, she is socially excluded and her existence is degraded. A woman has to live dependent on a man, living alone is against the social order. Patriarchy has shaped women's existence to its own advantage and culturally stigmatizes their individuality as humiliating. A patriarchal society does not like women's self-determination. It marks women decision-makers as subversives and ostracizes them from society.
