A review of the phytochemical and pharmacological characteristics of Ageratum conyzoides L.

ABSTRACT: The invasive aromatic herb Ageratum conyzoides L. (Asteraceae) has enormous medicinal value. Tropical and subtropical areas are home to the herb. Because A. conyzoides has been used to treat a wide range of illnesses, including leprosy, skin conditions, sleeping sickness, rheumatism, migraines, dyspnea, toothaches, pneumonia, and many more, it has been employed in many ethnomedical applications. Many phytoconstituents from practically every portion of this plant, including terpenes, alkaloids, flavonoids, chromenes, and sterols, have been examined. Numerous pharmacological characteristics, such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, anticancer, antiprotozoal, antidiabetic, spasmolytic, allopathic, and many more, have been demonstrated by these phytoconstituents. In order to extract several potential active chemicals and confirm their safety in clinical applications, the plant A. conyzoides has offered a platform for pharmacological and toxicological research. Principal data for advanced research in the fields of agricultural and pharmaceutical industries are provided by A. conyzoides. The cytogenetics, ethnobotany, photochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicological aspects of A. conyzoides are all included in the current review study
