«THE ROLE OF ROOFTOP GARDENS IN URBAN ECOSYSTEMS: ENVIRONMENTAL, AESTHETIC, AND SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS»
This study explores the potential of rooftop gardens in Samarkand as a vital strategy for tackling land scarcity and environmental challenges. Despite limited implementation due to a lack of design guidelines and suitable plant knowledge, green roofs offer numerous benefits, including enhanced aesthetics, recreational spaces, and improved urban quality. We identify challenges such as financial constraints and community engagement, and aim to adapt successful global models to the local context. Our findings indicate that rooftop gardens can improve air quality, reduce urban heat, and enhance biodiversity, positioning them as essential elements of sustainable urban ecosystems that address key social and environmental issues in rapidly urbanizing areas.
