Cloaking a tunable magneto-elastic metastructure for energy harvesting and vibration suppression
Leveraging advancements in cloaking technology and nonlinear resonators, we present a multifunctional vibro-acoustic metastructure integrating nonlinear magneto-elastic piezoelectric oscillators. This metabeam design is equipped with uniform voids housing piezoelectric beams to generate local resonance bandgaps and harvest vibrational energy. A cloaking strategy involving boundary reinforcement and mass redistribution surrounds these voids, maintaining modal properties and ensuring tunability, structural integrity, and enhanced performance. Magnetic interactions enable broad frequency bandgap tuning and bistable, monostable, or chaotic behaviors by adjusting magnet distances. Experiments validated theoretical and numerical predictions, demonstrating significant performance under chaotic conditions. The metastructure powered seven LEDs, generating 5.3 V and 46.6 µW (@ 8 g), su!cient for microelectronics, such as wireless sensors, low-power OLED displays. These findings highlight the potential of cloaked metastructures for energy harvesting, vibration control, and energy management, with promising applications in engineering projects.
