Foundation and Influence of Ancient Indian Mathematicians in the development of Modern Mathematics
Abstract: Ancient Indian mathematicians have played a crucial role in shaping the foundations of modern mathematics. Their contributions include a wide range of mathematical fields, including geometry, calculus, algebra, and arithmetic. Notable innovations include the decimal system, the concept of zero, and the earliest versions of trigonometry. Despite the loss of many historical records, the impact of Indian mathematical scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, and Bhaskara I is still acknowledged in mathematical advancements worldwide. With an emphasis on the fundamental ideas of ancient Indian mathematical traditions and the persistence of their heritage through contemporary mathematicians such as Ramanujan, this paper examines the significant influence of these traditions on modern mathematics. By revisiting and analysing these contributions we aim to emphasize their importance in the development of mathematical thought and encourage further research in this domain.
