From Idols to Infinity: Exploring the Indestructibility of the Divine in the Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita, a cornerstone of Indian philosophy, challenges the perception of worship as idol-centric by emphasizing the indestructible and formless essence of the divine. This article explores how the Gita distinguishes between the physical and eternal, dispelling myths about idol worship and emphasizing the deity's transcendence beyond material representation. Drawing on key verses and commentaries by Swami Sivananda, Eknath Easwaran, and Radhakrishnan, the article redefines divinity as spiritual wealth (Bhagwan) and examines its universal relevance in contemporary spiritual discourse. This paper also explores interfaith comparisons and modern applications of the Gita’s teachings, particularly in the context of ethical leadership, mental well-being, and interfaith dialogue.
