Navigating Challenges and Solutions for Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education: An Indian Perspective
Abstract: India adopted a goal in 2015 aiming to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all by 2023 as a part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The New Education Policy 2020 (NEP) focuses on harnessing the power of education to enhance inclusion and equality. The NEP 2020 also addresses various concerns and provides provisions to strengthen inclusive and equitable quality education for all. However, many segments of society still face challenges related to inclusivity and equality. Major concerns include disabilities, low income levels, educational infrastructure, transportation accessibility, gender disparity, high dropout rates, socio-cultural issues, and digital detachment. This study reviews and discusses the challenges faced by the Indian education sector regarding inclusivity and equality, proposing potential solutions to fortify these principles. The main purpose is to identify existing concerns and suggest strategies to address them. The study is based on secondary data and utilises a descriptive research design. The outcomes offer strategies to enhance inclusive and equitable education in India, benefiting decision-makers such as government, educators, students, parents, and the community. The study concludes with key findings, implications, and future research directions.
