Advancing Research Data Management through Enhanced Vertical Interoperability
This presentation introduces the concept of Vertical Interoperability, which we define as the seamless passage of data and metadata across research tools involved in every stage of the research lifecycle, from the initial stages of research planning to the archiving and deposit of research outputs. We introduce the concept using the MaLDReTH model, and contrast it with horizontal interoperability. We then illustrate it through examples of RSpace integrations that demonstrate such interoperability. Finally, we argue why Vertical Interoperability is relevant to repositories, and set the scene for a discussion on what is required to achieve Vertical Interoperability. This presentation was given as part of the Vertical Interoperability Workshop session at the GREI Annual Meeting 2024.
