The effect of leadership on schools results and improvement in Somalia.

ABSTRACT This thesis investigates the pivotal role of leadership in shaping educational outcomes and fostering improvement within Somali schools during the year 2023. Against the backdrop of a dynamic socio-political environment, this study seeks to unravel the intricate relationship between leadership practices and the overall progress of educational institutions. Conducted between December 2022 and February 2023, the research employed a mixed-methods approach to comprehensively analyze the impact of leadership styles, strategies, and practices on school results and improvement. Through surveys, interviews, and case studies, the study captures the perceptions of educators, students, and community stakeholders, providing nuanced insights into the complex dynamics at play. The research utilized a descriptive cross-sectional survey research design to measure characteristics and responses of sampled participants simultaneously. This approach facilitated the collection of data at different points in time, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted aspects of leadership influencing schools. The quantitative methodology employed included frequencies, percentages, and vicariate and multivariate analysis to reveal specific results of the variables under consideration. Key dimensions of leadership under scrutiny include visionary guidance, instructional leadership, organizational management, and community engagement. The study aims to identify successful leadership patterns contributing to positive academic outcomes and overall school development. It also addresses the challenges faced by educational leaders in 2023, providing recommendations for overcoming these obstacles and fostering sustained improvement. The findings of this research not only contribute to the academic discourse on educational leadership but also offer practical insights for policymakers, school administrators, and community leaders. By understanding the multifaceted role of leadership in schools, this thesis aims to inform targeted interventions and policies, fostering positive change in the educational landscape of Somalia in 2023 and beyond. The insights derived from this study aspire to catalyze efforts towards educational excellence, aligning with the broader goal of national development through enhanced educational outcomes.
