Herbal Air Freshener in Context to Effect on Indoor Microbial load
Abstract: Air fresheners are chemical based solutions used to keep surrounding air especially indoor air clean with pleasant odor. In addition, these synthetic air fresheners contain numerous chemicals which cause negative effect on human health as they have many allergens in them. The present study focuses on natural herbal air fresheners prepared from leaf extracts of medicinally important plants like Eucalyptus, Azadirachta indica and Moringa, Aloe vera gel, Curcuma longa powder, cloves and rose water. Following chemical compounds like Azadirachtin, Nimbin, Nimbidin, Eucalyptol, Salicyclic acids, Curcuminoids, Eugenol, etc shows antimicrobial activity. This organic air freshener does not contain any chemical allergens; it reduces the indoor microbial load and also adds the fragrance without any harmful effects on human health. This study has shown a decrease in indoor microbial load due to antimicrobial properties of plants used which is a good environmentally friendly substitute for synthetic air fresheners.
