Enhanced Mechanical Properties of Coir Fiber-Reinforced Green Polymer Composites.
This case study mini project investigates the development of sustainable coir fiber-reinforced green polymeric composites for injection molding applications. Coir fiber, a natural and biodegradable material, was chemically treated to enhance its compatibility with the polypropylene matrix. The effects of coir fiber content on the mechanical properties, thermal properties, and water absorption of the composites were evaluated. The results demonstrate that the incorporation of coir fiber significantly improves the mechanical properties, including tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact strength. Additionally, the composites exhibit enhanced thermal properties, such as heat deflection temperature (HDT), and reduced water absorption. The study also highlights the importance of surface modification techniques in improving the interfacial adhesion between the coir fibers and the polymer matrix. The developed biocomposites offer a sustainable alternative to traditional petroleum-based composites, with potential applications in various industries. Further research is needed to explore the long-term durability and environmental impact of these materials.
