THE TRANSNISTRIAN FILE WITHIN THE FOREIGN POLICY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The events in South-Eastern Europe during recent years demonstrate that the international security environment is becoming increasingly complex. Consequently, we observe a continuous transformation of the characteristics of the security architecture in the Transnistrian region, with political, military, economic, cyber and socio-cultural influences. Dissensions arise directly and indirectly between the actors participating in the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict, especially Russia and the USA are involved. The latest geopolitical changes launched by Russia in February 2022 regarding the status of the regions of Eastern Ukraine and the subsequent evolution of the confrontations resulted in a change in the paradigm of the Transnistrian conflict resolution process as well. The solution of the Transnistrian problem, at the moment, is under attention of the international community, taking into account the relationship of causality and effect as a result of the military developments in Ukraine. This circumstance is conceptually important and must be taken into account when analyzing the current state of political processes in the Republic of Moldova. Taking into account that both Russia and the USA are participants in the negotiation process regarding the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, there is a need to analyze their foreign policy directions regarding the Transnistrian file.
