Approaches to Systems and Entrepreneurial Skills for Employment Generation in Nigeria

The development of innovative and entrepreneurial skills in Nigeria emphasizes addressing the gap between education and the labor market, enabling learners to become self reliant after graduation. This study specifically aimed to identify the innovative and entrepreneurial skills necessary in basic science education for job creation, as well as the effective teaching strategies required. Conducted in Nigeria, the research was guided by three key research questions (RQs) and utilized a descriptive survey design. The study's population consisted of 14 principals and 20 basic science teachers, and data was gathered using a 22-item questionnaire. The results, analyzed using mean and standard deviation, showed that numerous skills are essential in science education for employment generation. Furthermore, teachers were encouraged to adopt hands-on teaching methods, though several challenges hindered the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills in basic science education.
