Modern Tamil novels portray the lives of contemporary women. Tamil women have gone through many oppressions and live without much worldly knowledge. They have adapted themselves to suit the modern environment. The times when they fought to free themselves from slavery have changed and they have started fighting for the problems of their dependent communities. They are using their work and knowledge along with social media to reclaim the right to life of socially marginalized people from the ruling classes. Times have changed when they used to think of home as the world and today educational institutions have provided opportunities for women to explore the world. Many modern women do not fail to pass on culture and tradition to the next generation. They raise some intellectual questions against the encroachments imposed on them in the name of spirituality and tradition. Women who were enslaved by patriarchy are also helping men who live with wrong principles in today's times. Modern women do not move their lives according to the environment like the women of the previous century but they shape the environment as it suits them. They do not allow any events in their life that affect their normal life and principles. Indira Soundarrajan has revealed such matters in the novel “Iraiyuthirkadu”. It will bring a change in Tamil society by bringing it out of the ruling classes and superstitions.
