Aerobic capacity levels in primary schoolchildren at the beginning and end of an academic year
Abstract: Introduction: Aerobic capacity is a biological marker of fitness-related health. Aim: The aim was to compare aerobic capacity levels between two measurements recorded (at the beginning and at the end) of an academic year. MethodsAerobic capacity was evaluated with the Course-Navette test. Participants were categorized according to reference values and cut-off points of aerobic capacity: very bad/bad (X < P40), average (P40 ≤ X < P60), good/very good (X ≥ P60). Results & discussion The student's t test detected significant differences between the initial and final measurements in the group with good/very good aerobic capacity (7.41 v. 6.71; p = 0.006). Conclusions: No significant differences were recorded in the rest of the groups. Physical education teachers have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to issue reports on the state of physical condition, as well as the usefulness of the area in compliance with physical-healthy guidelines.
