Comprehensive Exploration of Stabilized HeLa Cells for Human Longevity, Regenerative Medicine, and Industrial Applications: Ethical and Scientific Perspectives
HeLa cells are a cornerstone of modern biology, defined by their capacity for indefinite replication due to oncogenic mutations and hyperactive telomerase. Despite their extraordinary contributions to science, HeLa cells' inherent instability and tumorigenic nature limit their direct applications in human therapies. This thesis proposes a detailed exploration of HeLa cell stabilization, integrating advanced biotechnological methods such as CRISPR-Cas9, epigenetic reprogramming, and synthetic genomics to eliminate their cancerous traits while preserving immortality. It delves into potential applications, including regenerative medicine, longevity research, and industrial biomanufacturing, while addressing the ethical, moral, and societal implications of manipulating immortal human cells. By tackling the biological, technological, and ethical challenges, this thesis aims to create a roadmap for safely harnessing HeLa cells’ potential in a transformative yet responsible manner.
