Enhancing Resilience through Sustainable Development: Integrating Innovation and Technology in Mitigating Heat Waves in Delhi Metropolitan Region
Abstract Abstract The temperatures are increasing at a rapid rate leading to negative and destroying effect at the global level. The prolonged rise in temperature contributes to the formation of heat waves, a phenomenon that is increasingly aggravated by climate change. Changes observed in the magnitude, time-factor and period of occurrence in context of relative humidity and temperature are the prime factors of the growing climate crisis. A heat wave, in this context, explains the degree to which the rising temperatures, in close combination with varying degrees of humidity, increases the vulnerability of individuals and societies to climate change. Beyond its direct impact on human health, heat waves also affect various developmental activities. This study examines the trend of heat waves in Delhi metropolitan region for a period of 6 decades (i.e., 61 years) in relation to temperature and humidity variability. The data is collected for three specific months i.e., April, May and June and analyzed with the help of least sqaure method. Students t-test is applied to decipher the significance of trend analysis. The findings of the study reveals an increasing trend in heat wave occurrences for all three months during the chosen time periods. The analysis of the study projects a continued rise in heat waves, which could further exacerbate community’s vulnerability to constant change in climate and likely to devastate all associated developmental activities.
