Exploring Dimensions and Level of Emotional Intelligence among Professional Educators

Abstract: The teaching and learning processes are fundamentally emotive, which is why teaching is an intrinsically emotional practice. Educators in the 21st century are compelled to acquire the ability to address emotional situations in the classroom. Consequently, educational achievement is contingent upon the manner in which teachers manage and shape their own emotional state and that of their students. This study employs a reflective approach to examine the importance of teachers' emotional intelligence skills in their professional activities, which is a success indicator for a healthy pedagogical relationship (e.g., professional well-being, teacher-student relationship, educational achievement). To this end, it will be essential to integrate emotional skills into the pedagogy. The study further explores significant difference of demographic characteristics of faculty members in reference to Emotional Intelligence in selected Universities of Rajasthan. The study has been conducted in selected Universities of Rajasthan. The questionnaire has been distributed among 250 faculty members to universities offering professional education. The study identified the dimensions of emotional intelligence and determined the relationship with socio-demographic variables. Results using correlation analysis indicated positive correlation with EI dimensions with socio-demographic variables. The study also revealed that age, gender, marital status, educational qualification, and working experience are associated with the EI dimensions. However, age and educational qualification have a low correlation with the measurement of EI levels. The study is limited only to explore the relationship between socio demographic variables and Emotional Intelligence. Further it would be beneficial to explore the mediating factors between EI dimensions and socio-demographic variables on larger samples. Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Faculty Members, Socio-Demographic Variables, Universities, Rajasthan
