Cognitive Diagnostic Modeling for English Language Proficiency: Insights from Iranian and Iraqi MA Students in Literature and Linguistics
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the English language competency of Iranian and Iraqi MA students studying English literature and linguistics using Cognitive Diagnostic Modeling. The study makes multiple contributions to the domains of educational measurement and language testing. It first illustrates how CDM can be used practically in English language competency testing, emphasizing its capacity to offer comprehensive diagnostic data that surpasses the scope of conventional evaluation techniques. By concentrating on Iranian and Iraqi students, whose distinct linguistic and educational backgrounds have not received enough attention in earlier studies, it also fills a vacuum in the literature. Third, the study's conclusions can guide the creation of linguistically and culturally relevant language tests, which are crucial for promoting the academic achievement of a variety of student populations.Additionally, this study has significant ramifications for legislators and language instructors.
