Top five Bangkok attractions for Chinese travelers in 2024

In preparation for the 2024 campaign to attract Chinese tourists to Bangkok attractions, this paper uses inquiry data, interviews, and brainstorming sessions with government officials, Bangkok authorities, Chinese tour offices, and authorized tour agencies and companies. The paper lists the top ten recurrent attractions currently visited by Chinese nationals. Personal interviews were carried out with the staff of two major tour offices in the Pratunam area. At least 90 percent of Chinese travelers to Bangkok buy visits to the Indra Market, the Siam Center, Siam Paragon, the Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World, and the Chao Phraya Dinner Cruise. The top transformative and family visitation attractions are, respectively, Safari World, Dream World Park, the Chatuchak weekend market, the Asiatique Riverfront Creative Lifestyle Center, and the Madame Tussauds Museum. The survey data have an overall 95% accuracy with a five-percentage point precision, collectively spanning 95,678 paying Chinese tourists on 2,888 separate tours. Tour companies and 20 agents account for 97.22 percent of all Chinese tourism demand to Bangkok in the 2018–2019 season, while the remaining 2.78 percent travel independently or are corporate and association meetings, conventions, incentives, and exhibitions. The international tourist expenditure within Bangkok and central Thailand markets was US$ 721 million with a US$ 253 million profit in the form of taxes to the local and national authorities and an accumulated profit to all relevant private stakeholders, especially in the Chinese and national companies of US$ 468 million. It is anticipated that, with a 3.5% per year growth rate in the Chinese tourist market size and the concurrent deployment of a creative and safe tourism policy, a maximum of 6.1 million paying Chinese travelers could visit Bangkok attractions in 2024 for a projected spending of US$ 1.7 billion. For the public, the data contains valuable information to anticipate mass tourism empowerment levels because of the highly congested publicly managed attractions in the city to be visited.
