Academic Journey of Students in Learning Mathematics under National Learning Camp

This phenomenology study aimed to explore and understand the lived experiences of students in learning mathematics under national learning camp. Using purposive sampling, the participating 14 mathematics students in the learning camp from public school were identified. All of them participated in the in-depth interviews. Results revealed the experiences of the participants: difficulty in understanding math problems and concepts; having the feeling of satisfaction and fun in learning mathematics; collaborative learning enhances mathematical understanding; and lack of self-confidence causing learning deficiency. In response to the challenges they have encountered, they deemed the following coping strategies essential: embodying the practical importance of mathematics; teacher support and motivation; emulating positive mindset and perseverance; and practicing self-preparation strategies, they arrived at the following insights: reflections on the importance of active learning and persistence; perseverance and growth mindset in mathematics; integration of technology for enhanced engagement and learning; and overcoming math challenges through effort and engagement. The results of this study were anticipated to be meaningful and important to the participants, teachers, students, and researchers.
