CONTRIBUTION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION'S STUDENT GOVERNMENT PROGRAM (SGP) TO THE GOVERNMENT SERVICE PERFORMANCE OF FORMER SUPREME STUDENT GOVERNMENT (SSG) STUDENT LEADERS IN THE SCHOOLS DIVISION OF MARINDUQUE

This study evaluated the contributions of the Student Government Program (SGP) in the government service performance of former Supreme Student Government (SSG) student leaders in the Schools Division of Marinduque. 30 former SSG student leaders, along with their peers and immediate supervisors, took part in the survey. A modified survey questionnaire from Espiritu (2018) was used in the study. Weighted mean and ranking were used to evaluate the respondents' performance, while Kruskal Wallis Test was used to determine any significant difference between the responses of identified group of respondents. Additionally, open-ended survey questions were used to collect qualitative data in order to investigate opinions regarding the contributions of the SGP, difficulties encountered by former student leaders, and suggestions for program enhancement. For qualitative responses, content analysis was employed. Most of the leadership performance indicators were rated as "Very Satisfactory" with Building Organizational Community earning the highest rating. Among the "Very Satisfactory" indicators of management performance, Planning and Risk Management received the highest rating. Findings revealed that there are no significant differences on the government service performance of former SSG student leaders based from self, peer and supervisor’s evaluation. The study also found that the most commonly mentioned competencies acquired through the SGP were building organizational community, personal leadership, and communication skills. Former student leaders encountered difficulties with time management, peer pressure, and a lack of resources. The inclusion of trainings and seminars, real-world experiences, and a mentoring program were the most suggested enhancements for the SGP.
