Green Library: A Sustainable Approach to Libraries in the Modern Era
As more and more people are aware of or forced to confront the looming threat of environmental collapse, and as sustainable development becomes the only way for human civilization to survive, libraries can be models of eco-friendly practices as they continue to serve their essential functions as hubs of knowledge and community. This study aims to understand the concepts and evolution of green libraries, to review initiatives on a global and regional scale, to analyze successful case studies, and to explore the potential issues and opportunities for adopting green practices. Methodologically, the paper is qualitative and secondary, synthesizing recent literature, institutional reports, and case studies from a range of contexts. Marzieh Mohammadi1, Rahman Karami and Kaveh Najafi, "The Impact of Green Libraries on Promoting Sustainable Development" (2018), "`Green Libraries' are sustainable libraries that are designed to reduce the overall impact on the environment. But issues remain, including funding, awareness and policy support. The paper ends by illustrating how green libraries can be transformational, explaining collective approaches that can be implemented moving forward and proposing pathways for future research.
