Poster "Reducing exposure to Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals in pregnant and lactating women: The HYPIEND perinatal Randomized Controlled Trial"
Increasing evidence highlights the impact of exposure to mixtures of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in humans. Found in nutrition, cosmetics, and the environment, EDCs can disrupt the endocrine system governed by the hypothalamus-pituitary (HP) axis. This is especially concerning during critical developmental stages like the perinatal period, as data suggest high EDC exposure can harm infant growth and neurodevelopment, and may contribute to the rise of obesity and diabetes (1–3). To date, few intervention studies have assessed whether reducing perinatal EDC exposure can mitigate these harmful effects, and they have entailed considerable limitations. In response, HYPIEND aims to evaluate a multicomponent intervention to reduce perinatal EDC exposure. This HYPIEND poster was presented at the 6th European Conference on Preconception Health and Care, organised by KU Leuven, REALIFE research group and Vives department Healthcare.
