Występowanie dużych drapieżników na tle zagęszczenia jeleniowatych oraz intensywności zgryzania odnowień w Babiogórskim Parku Narodowym
The spatial and seasonal activity of large predators was analysed against the background of the distribution of other large mammals, especially ungulate herbivores, in Babia Góra National Park, and the intensity and impact of deer browsing on the growth and health status of forest regeneration. Data on animal activity were collected using a series of permanently installed trail cameras. Data on deer distribution were collected during annual drive counts in selected forest compartments. Data on the intensity of deer browsing on young trees were obtained from the regular monitoring of forest regeneration carried out by the staff of Babia Góra National Park. Despite the continuous presence of large carnivores throughout the range of ungulate herbivores, the density of deer population in Babia Góra National Park is very high, although it fluctuates, and the pressure of deer browsing on the young generation of trees is considerable.
