D3.2 Final version of PATTERN training plans in Pilot Organizations

D3.2 Final Version of PATTERN Training Plans in Pilot Organizations presents a comprehensive, evidence-based training planning framework that builds on LC1 and sets the stage for a refined LC2. Building on the foundations laid in D3.1 First Version of PATTERN Training Plans, this document incorporates all adjustments, refinements and extensions made during LC1 (May 2024 – April 2025) and provides a definitive and harmonised planning framework for LC2 (May 2025 – April 2026). During LC1, PATTERN piloted eight modular training courses across multiple European research organizations that are also consortium members. These pilots were evaluated using a rigorous monitoring, evaluation and learning framework drawing on established program evaluation methodologies. As highlighted in D3.3 Evaluation of Outcomes and Refinement Strategy, the project’s evaluation approach is multi-method and multi-dimensional, assessing participant satisfaction, learning outcomes, and even early signs of institutional impact. This continuous evaluation process guided the refinement of the training strategy for LC2. The final training plans for LC2 capitalise on these lessons learnt, introducing targeted adjustments and enhancements to maximise impact. Training sessions in the second cycle are delivered in more focused cohorts to foster active participation and discussion. Interactive and blended learning methods have been amplified: for example, additional case-based and problem-based learning activities are included to engage learners in real-world scenarios, and new interactive modules and tools have been developed to support personalized learning pathways. All course materials have been meticulously refined and standardized (e.g. packaged as SCORM-compliant e-learning units) to ensure seamless integration with digital platforms. In particular, the OpenPlato LMS is leveraged to host and disseminate the training content, enriched with advanced features and tailored learning paths for greater flexibility, adaptability and sustainability on the training materials. Simultaneously, the Projects platform continues to be enriched with real-world case scenarios derived from other EU project sources, further supporting PATTERN’s scope through pilot delivery training plans that engage target audiences in the most effective way. Resources have also been localized and translated, enabling multilingual delivery and adaptation to local contexts. A Train-the-Trainer approach has been instituted to facilitate institutional embedding, evaluation and sustainability of the courses, empowering participants to become multipliers of knowledge within their universities and research institutes. Through careful calendar coordination, the consortium partners have aligned their LC2 training schedules to avoid overlaps and exploit synergies (including joint sessions and cross-thematic workshops), thereby optimizing reach and resource use across the pilot sites. D3.2 emphasizes the importance of aligning with broader policy initiatives and ensuring long-term institutional adoption. The updated plans explicitly incorporate key policy priorities, such as reinforcing research integrity, promoting FAIR data practices, and enhancing inclusivity and gender considerations. This ensures that researchers are not only acquiring essential skills but also meeting the evolving expectations of Horizon Europe and the ERA. Regular surveys, meetings, one-to-one sessions, feedback workshops and KPI tracking are embedded in LC2 to enable real-time performance monitoring and iterative course corrections. This continuous improvement cycle guarantees that training delivery remains responsive to participant needs and institutional contexts, thereby promoting sustainable adoption of Open RRI practices. In summary, D3.2 delivers a concrete and strategic roadmap for LC2, underpinned by the evidence gathered from the first cycle and reinforced by cross-work-package collaboration. It reaffirms WP3’s central role in translating PATTERN’s innovative training content into operational reality at scale. The planned enhancements and coordination efforts will not only improve researchers’ competencies in Open RRI but also embed these practices within their institutions, contributing to a transformative culture change in line with European Commission objectives. **This version of the document is still under approval of the EC.

Abstract

Interactive and blended learning methods have been amplified: for example, additional case-based and problem-based learning activities are included to engage learners in real-world scenarios, and new interactive modules and tools have been developed to support personalized learning pathways.
