Fast Oscillations Damping Control for PV-BESS Power Plants
Devices that add flexibility to electrical power systems, such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), are gaining importance as non-dispatchable renewable sources increase their participation in the energy matrix and technological advances reduce the costs associated with the acquisition and deployment of such devices. This paper presents a control strategy for damping the oscillations that arise from photovoltaic (PV) generators and discusses how the tuning of this control influences the size of the BESS and the capacity of the grid-connection converter. The results show that accepting less restrictive controls causes a considerable reduction in the size of the storage system and only a minor derating of the quality of the control.
