Design of the Substring MPP Tracker

The substring Maximum Power Point tracker increases the output power of a photovoltaic module by operating each substring at the Maximum Power Point. Since the substring Maximum Power Point tracker consists partly of nested DC-DC converters, it is possible to reduce the noise with suitable control. This report therefore derives the control of the DC-DC converters that leads to voltages with as little noise as possible. Measurements prove the theoretically derived relationships.

Abstract

The substring Maximum Power Point tracker increases the output power of a photovoltaic module by operating each substring at the Maximum Power Point. Since the substring Maximum Power Point tracker consists partly of nested DC-DC converters, it is possible to reduce the noise with suitable control. This report therefore derives the control of the DC-DC converters that leads to voltages with as little noise as possible. Measurements prove the theoretically derived relationships.
