Cost-Competitiveness Analysis of Infrastructure Integrated PV

In the past few years, as the cost of PV components has decreased, their performances increased and the pressure for decarbonization rose, new multifunctional products in the form of PV noise barriers (PVNBs), urban furniture, etc. have started to emerge. Most projects have been of limited scale, showcasing their potential benefits and highlighting the point of improvement. Nonetheless, some IIPV applications are already much more mature, such as PV carports. This study aims to assess IIPV installation costs and the additional cost of IIPV solutions over conventional ones, evaluating their competitiveness through indicators like the Net Present Value (NPV), and the Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The project also explores synergies and highlights the maximum extra cost of system that should be targeted in order to reach breakeven profitability. It was found that extra costs for IIPV cases accounted for about twothirds of total costs. Then, the competitiveness assessment shows that the tested PVNB system is currently unprofitable, while the CC system remains profitable even without incentives.
