Investigation of functionalized (2-Phenylpyridine)Pt(II) complexes for monitoring and interfering with amyloid aggregation
Several diseases (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease (AD)) are characterized by formation of cytotoxic amyloid oligomers and fibrils. Consequently, methods to detect and monitor amyloid assemblies may offer new insight into neurodegenerative disease diagnosis and therapy. Phenylpyridine (ppy) acetylacetone (acac) coordinated square-planar Pt(II) complexes are easily prepared organometallic complexes that possess attractive photophysical properties and biocompatibilities in in vitro and in vivo settings. These properties render cyclometalated Pt(II) complexes potentially useful as luminescent bioprobes.
