Toward Extrapoetics: Nanao Sakaki's Presentational Poetics

In this thesis I conceptualize Nanao Sakaki’s (1923-2008) presentational poetics. I define presentational poetics as a poetic strategy that effects a dissolution of the boundaries between the poetic and extrapoetic worlds. I argue that presentation poetics occur through the three mechanisms of 1) porosity, 2) tangibility, and 3) (poly)vocality (each of which comprises a chapter). I conclude by considering some of the ramifications of presentational poetics.
