Modern Physics for Engineers Lecture slides 08a – The nature of quantum mechanical particles

This lecture part deals with the nature of quantum mechanical particles, or their "ontology", pointing out that many of the problems we have with understanding quantum mechanical particles come from us bringing along the ontology of classical particles when we use the word "particle" in quantum mechanics. Many of these problems disappear if we stop doing that, and there are classical analogies that can help with the concepts. (slides)

Abstract

This lecture part deals with the nature of quantum mechanical particles, or their "ontology", pointing out that many of the problems we have with understanding quantum mechanical particles come from us bringing along the ontology of classical particles when we use the word "particle" in quantum mechanics. Many of these problems disappear if we stop doing that, and there are classical analogies that can help with the concepts. (slides)
