Interview with Effie Mackintosh and Janet Robertson

Audio recording and transcript of Effie Mackintosh and Janet Robertson's 1979 interview with Joy Leach for the Coal Tyee History Project. MacIntosh and Robertson share memories of living in the coal mining community of Cumberland, where they grew up and then worked as school teachers. Some of the topics discussed during the interview include: how their families arrived in Cumberland, housing, ethnic groups in the community, transportation, politics, entertainment and social activities, medical care, church life, and police and fire services. Robertson and Mackintosh also recall some accidents in the mines and they mention a female nurse (likely Nora Ledoux) entering the mine after an explosion.
