El exilio filosófico de Eduardo Nicol
pp. 68-85 This paper analyzes in Eduardo Nicol’s work his reflections on the personal experience of exile and his criticism of José Gaos’ idea of being transterrados. Also, his ideas on «hispanidad» or Hispanic community between America and Spain, his assessment of colonization in America (as a means of expansion of the Spanish language and the Catholic religion) and his vision of the future of this cultural community. Also discussed are Nicol’s Catalanism (defense of Catalan culture and language) and his criticism of colonial hatred of linguistic diversity, his perspective on the essential tasks, singularity and future of philosophy in the Spanish language, as well as his original contributions to the diagnosis of the crisis of Western civilization, characterized by scientific and technological development and the preponderance of what Nicol called the «reason of force majeure», which is imposed on philosophical reason.
