Das „Marine-Casino“ und die Kirche „Madonna del Mare“ in Pula

The paper treats the history of construction of two prestigious naval buildings in Pola in the early 20th century: the “Marine-Casino” and the naval Church “Madonna del Mare”. Buildings which should give impulse to the social life and serve the religious needs of the population of Pola, which had grown significantly because of the decision to make Pola the main military harbour of the Austro-Hungarian Navy. The reconstruction of the history of both projects and their path to realization is based on archive documents conserved in the Austrian State Archives (OStA), War Archives – Naval Section.
