Designing Trust: Creating Voting Systems that Inspire Confidence in the Electoral Process; Restoring Trust in Elections

Elections are essential for a functioning democracy, but now more than ever voters are distrustful of elections. This paper first analyzes current voting technology. It then proposes a new tool that can be used by election officials and voters to promote trust and security in elections. The paper then analyzes how voters interact with voting machines to determine where trust is lost and how engineers can design systems that promote trust.
