Die Rezeption von Nizäa in Geschichtsschreibung und kirchlicher Erinnerung der Spätantike: Das Beispiel des Anonymus von Cyzicus
The article examines the portrayal of the Nicene Council in an anonymous late-fifth century church history (Ps. Gelasius). Compiling material of divers origin, the author does not add to the historical information about the event but creates an imagine that reflects the memorialization and the expectations about this most venerated of synods in his own time, and enlivens the account with novelistic flavours. Above all the author is concerned to emphasize the universal distribution of the council’s decisions and acts. His own work, purportedly building on such acts, is at once a demonstration of this idea and reflects the contemporary experience of the availability of such acts from the ecumenical councils of the fifth century.
