Pm Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyan
The “PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyaan” is an initiative by the HRD Ministry aimed at reducing malnutrition and improving the nutritional status of women and children in India. This scheme is part of the National Rural Health Mission and seeks to reduce maternal and new born mortality rates. The main objective of the program is to provide adequate nutrition to pregnant women and children under the age of 6. To achieve this, the program provides supplementary nutrition, health education, immunization, and health check-ups to pregnant women, breast feeding mothers, adolescent girls and children under 6 years through community health centers. The “PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyaan” also aims to empower and educate women on the importance of adequate nutrition during pregnancy and early childhood. Nutrition plays a crucial role in the overall development and wellbeing of individuals. Trained female community health activists also known as “ASHA workers”, have been deployed in every village to act as a crucial link between the community and the public health system, providing essential information and resources to the beneficiaries. The scheme also emphasizes community-level planning and encourages the active participation of local communities, ensuring that the interventions are tailored to each community's specific needs and challenges. Despite the efforts made under the PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyaan, there are still challenges in significantly improving the nutritional status of children and women.
