Was bringt die Anhebung des gesetzlichen Rentenalters? Beginn und Dauer von Rente in Deutschland: Analysen mit der Sullivan-Methode

Between 2012 and 2031, the statutory retirement age in the German Pension Insurance (DRV) will be raised from 65 to 67. But are people actually retiring later? This article takes a different approach to the common indicators average retirement age and average duration of pensions. It uses life expectancy to calculate how long 60-year-olds in Germany wait on average to retire and how long this pension then lasts on average. In 2022, retirement began at 64.9 years for an expected duration of 16.6 years (men) or 20.2 years (women), respectively. Over the 10-years period, retirement was markedly postponed by 1.0 year (men) and 1.4 years (women), respectively. The expected duration of the old-age pension was reduced by 0.8 years for men and 1.3 years for women. The increase in the statutory retirement age therefore has an impact on the old-age pension.
