Highly Alternating\nCopolymer of [1.1.1]Propellane\nand Perfluoro Vinyl Ether: Forming a Hydrophobic and Oleophobic Surface\nwith <50% Fluorine Monomer Content
Utilizing\nthe unique properties of fluorine substitution\nis an\neffective strategy for constructing highly functional materials. Here,\nwe synthesized a novel copolymer composed of [1.1.1]propellane and\nperfluoro(propyl vinyl ether) (PPVE), rich in alternating sequences.\nThe spin-coated copolymer film was amorphous, and its surface exhibited\nan extremely low surface free energy (γ). The γ value\nwas lower than that of polytetrafluoroethylene despite containing\nonly 40 mol % PPVE units. This can be attributed to the cancellation\nof the C–F dipole moments by the entirely random orientation\nof the fluorine units.
