Facile Synthesis of Bamboo Biochar for Efficient Adsorption\nof Quinolone Antibiotics: Effects and Mechanisms

The harmful effects\nof quinolone antibiotics on ecology and human\nhealth have attracted widespread attention. In this study, bamboo\nbiochar synthesized at different pyrolysis temperatures was used to\nremove quinolone antibiotics (moxifloxacin (MFX), ciprofloxacin (CIP),\nand ofloxacin (OFLX) as models). The pyrolysis temperature of 700\n°C led to a high pore volume and average pore size of biochar.\nThe biochar produced at 700 °C presented high adsorption properties\nfor MFX, CIP, and OFLX. The maximum adsorption capacities for MFX,\nCIP, and OFLX were 135.56, 151.31, and 116.40 mg/g, respectively.\nThe adsorption performance could be described by the Langmuir isotherm\nmodel and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Biochar produced from\nwaste bamboo could be applied as low-cost environmental adsorbents\nfor quinolone antibiotics removal.
