A pocket artificial buzzing system for the trumpet

Artificial playing systems are very useful tools to study musical instruments, to compare experiments with simulations, develop and validate new numerical models. Indeed, by replicating the action of the player, they allow some precise control over playing parameters, while making it possible to monitor physical quantities that can be quite difficult to record on human players. They may also find other applications such as quality control, music pedagogy, or artistic applications. In this article, we present an artificial buzzing system based on two silicone-type artificial lips that enables realistic trumpet sounds to be produced with minimal adjustments from the user. It is also compact and portable, which makes it potentially versatile for different applications.
