Kirigami Design Smart Contact Lens for Highly Sensitive\nEyelid Pressure Measurement
Eyelid\npressure is a crucial biomechanical parameter for ocular\nhealth and refractive status, yet measuring it poses challenges related\nto flexibility, sensitivity, and regional specificity. This study\nintroduces a novel smart contact lens that incorporates kirigami designs\nand an iontronic capacitive sensing array to enhance flexibility and\nconformability. The unique structural composition of this device allows\nfor precise and simultaneous monitoring of eyelid pressure in multiple\nregions with a high sensitivity and seamlessly fit across corneal\ncurvatures. The efficacy of the sensor has been thoroughly confirmed\nthrough comprehensive evaluations in rabbits and porcine eyes, demonstrating\nimproved conformity and sensitivity compared to conventional single-point\nsensors. Assessments have been conducted in various conditions, including\nunder anesthesia and in awake states, as well as the deliberate alteration\nof intraocular pressure fluctuations, all affirming the exceptional\naccuracy in detecting eyelid pressure. We envision that the smart\ncontact lens has the potential to revolutionize diagnosis and management\nof eyelid-related ocular diseases.
